![]() ![]() LEGO players’ hand detection and occlusion are realized to visualize the correct spatial relationship between real hands and virtual bricks, and allow virtual bricks to be “grasped” by real hands. Realistic object occlusion is accomplished to reveal the true spatial relationship between physical and virtual bricks. ![]() Compared with the state of the art, accuracy of the virtual–physical model alignment is significantly improved through a new design of marker-based registration, which can achieve an average error less than 1 mm throughout the model. With BRICKxAR, physical LEGO construction is guided by virtual bricks. ![]() Research emphasized that age differences between kids are significant consider the differences between a 3 and 6 year old.BRICKxAR is a novel augmented reality (AR) instruction method for construction toys such as LEGO®. Insights on Pedagogical Learning and Augmented Reality Education is at the core of the LEGO mission statement, so it was integral to not just incorporate AR but be able to articulate its educational value. I researched the basics of location-based AR and looked into how AR has been used to enhance elementary learning. I visualized some of the key takeaways when designing for kids. For example, from a UI perspective, kids tend to accidentally hit the bottom of screens so most menus and buttons need to be placed up top. Designing for children brings different areas of consideration into the UX picture. I conducted a three-pronged lit review so the team could have a solid research foundation underpinning the design phase. ![]()
